A Partnership between the Izaak Walton League and BSA's Venturing Program
A unique collaboration to make the world a better place.
The Green Crew is a unique collaboration between the Izaak Walton Leader — MN Valley Chapter and the Boy Scouts of America’s (BSA) Northern Star Council’s Venturing Program. The Crew is led by a leadership team that operates as a BSA Venturing Crew. All of the leadership team members and adult advisors are registered members of the BSA Venture Crew 3311. In addition, the Crew organizes and leads environmental adventures under the guidance and oversight of the Izaak Walton Leagues’ Youth Program Oversight Committee. Green Crew adventures involve as many youths as possible — both as participants in the adventure and Green Crew members.
The Izaak Walton League – MN Valley Chapter is committed to engaging diverse youth in meaningful environmental projects. They have adopted the framework of the BSA’s Venturing Program to add leadership development, training, Youth Protection Training (YPT), and program support. The Green Crew also intends to help add more environmental resources to the overall Scouting program and youth programming for the Izaak Walton League.
The Izaak Walton League is an American environmental organization founded in 1922 that promotes natural resource protection and outdoor recreation. The organization was founded in Chicago, Illinois, by a group of sportsmen who wished to protect fishing opportunities for future generations.
Because the leadership of the MN Valley Chapter was committed to providing youth an opportunity to be tomorrow’s environmental leaders today. They have opened their Chapter House and incredible property to host the first Green Crew with a shared vision for nuturing the growth of Green Crews throughout the Country.
Because the BSA Venturing Program is one of the best youth leadership development program available. It is a field tested program with an incredible infrastructure for supporting youth to rise to their full potential. Over the past several years the Scouts embracing of diversity, inclusion and equity, welcoming all youth to be part of all their program makes them a great partner. While there is an established respect for the environment in the program which provides a strong alignment of values, there is also incredible opportunity to future growth. This provides a great opportunity for Green Crew growth!
