GC Launches a DCSA Peer Support Cohort

A Faciliatated Peer Support Support Group
By Dilshan Rajan, Green Crew leadership team member
The Green Crew is excited to announce the launch of our DCSA Cohort #1. This is a peer support group to meet twice a month. We will be providing support to Scouts working on their Distinguished Conservation Service Award.
When I was working on my DCSA I felt alone. There were very few other Scouts who had earned this award. (I was only the third person to earn the revised version in the entire Council!). There were also not a lot of examples of qualifying projects. I feel fortunate to have earned the award, and now I want to give back. I want to help you to earn the award, too — while making a real difference for our environment. I feel so fortunate to have found the Green Crew (VC3111), because it is organized to support youth like you and me to make a difference in the environment. I am excited that they are providing us the platform to earn this award while supporting each other.
The Green Crew DCSA Cohort will not be your DCSA Advisor. We will support you on the workbooks. We will support you in properly connecting with your Council Conservation Committee to secure the required Advisor. We have many very experienced scientists, Scouts, and conservation specialists to support you in earning your DCSA. We also have a partnership with our Charter Organization, the Izaak Walton League of America — MN Valley Chapter, to be a potential beneficiary of your project.
We have a limited number of openings in this Cohort. We are accepting applications now through midnight on Oct. 15th. If you are selected, we will let you know on Oct. 24th. The cohort will meet on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of the month from 7-8: Our first cohort meeting will be on Zoom on November 13th.
