Educational Event — Morning

In the morning, we will be joined by Robert C. Venette, PhD Director, Minnesota Invasive Terrestrial Plants and Pests Center, University of Minnesota, Research Biologist, USDA Forest Service, Northern Research Station.

Robert has walked the property. He will share what he learned about our special place and what we can do to protect it. He will highlight the issues and challenges that other homeowners may be having with invasive species in their own homes.

Robert knows the latest research on what works and what doesn’t. He also balances different concerns — like climate change — in his recommendations. There is hardly a better person in the state to learn about terrestrial invasive species.

(The first hour of this presentation will be available on Zoom for those unable to join us)

Service Event — Afternoon

Let’s not just talk about it — let’s do something about it! There are infestations of garlic mustard, buckthorn, and honeysuckle on our lovely property. We also have other less noxious invasives that still need to be invited to leave so that natives have a chance to grow.

We will be breaking into small work teams. Each small work team will be given a defined area or plant to remove. There is guaranteed to be a lot of laughter and a lot of fun too.
