Earning Awards Can Be A Reflection of Accomplishment and Achievement

Earning Awards are a reflection of goals set and goals accomplished

As part of the BSA Venturing program, the members of the Green Crew Leadership program are eligible to earn additional awards. These awards provide youth an opportunity to focus their personal development around a specific set of goals. When achieved these goals are recognized with an award.

There are two awards that are “mission consistent” with the Green Crew which we actively encourage Green Crew members to consider. The accomplishment of the tasks associated with these awards is integrated into the Green Crew programming. These are:

World Conservation Award

The World Conservation Award provides an opportunity for individual Venturers to “think globally” and “act locally” to preserve and improve our environment. This award increases awareness that all nations are closely related through natural resources and that we are interdependent with our world environment.

Distinguished Conservation Service Award

The BSA Distinguished Conservation Service Awards program encourages learning by the participants and increases public awareness about natural resource conservation. The goal of this awards program is to encourage and recognize truly outstanding efforts undertaken by Venturers that have contributed significantly to natural resource conservation and environmental protection

There are other awards, while not directly connected to the mission of the Green Crew are also valuable to the development of our members. We support youth to earn them. These are:

Ranger Award

The Ranger Award exemplifies a challenging high-level outdoor/high-adventure skills advancement program. Once earned, it will identify a Ranger as a person who is highly skilled at a variety of outdoor sports and interests, trained in outdoor safety, and ready to lead or assist others in activities

Quest Award

While working on the Quest Award, Venturers will be required to learn more about what makes up a nutritional diet as well as design their own personal exercise plans based upon lifestyle, fitness levels, and desires for a healthy and long life. Hopefully, this program will introduce Venturers to a sport or sports that they will enjoy the rest of their life.

TRUST Award

Trust is an essential aspect of our relationship with others – both personally and corporately. Learning to trust is the challenge. Today young people live in an increasingly pluralistic society made up of multiple nationalities, cultures, and religions. One way to work toward a safe future is to learn to get along and work together. Understanding is a good start toward trust. While working on the TRUST award, Venturers will learn more about themselves, their communities, their religion, and culture, as well as those of others

Nova and Supernova Awards

The Boy Scouts of America developed the Nova Awards program to excite and expand a sense of wonder in our Scouts. By working with an adult counselor or mentor, the various modules allow them to explore the basic principles of STEM and discover how fun and fascinating STEM can be. The Supernova awards are offered for those who enjoy a super challenge.

Shooting Sports Outstanding Achievement Award

While working on the Ranger Shooting Sports elective, you are required to complete one of seven disciplines. However, if you go beyond the basic requirement and instead complete five of the seven disciplines, you will earn the Venturing Shooting Sports Outstanding Achievement Award. This beautiful medal and certificate are sponsored by many organizations in the shooting sports industry to recognize outstanding achievements in shooting sports.

How is the advancement integrated into the program?

The BSA venturing advancement program is fully integrated into the Green Crew programming. This provides our Leadership members an opportunity to use the Venturing ranks as a benchmark and recognition of their own development as leaders.

Will all Green Crew members participate in earning awards?

No. Only Green Crew leadership members will be eligible to participate in earning awards. All Green Crew members 13-21 are eligible to be part of the leadership. All members who express a desire to be part of the leadership are provided the opportunity — and are then eligible to participate in earning awards.

Are all Green Crew members expected to earn awards?

No, there will be Green Crew Leadership members who choose not to participate in earning awards, and that is fully supported by the program.
